I’LL GET ALONG

I’ve never known just how it would feel
To grab on to your hand and hold it for real and know

To walk on the sand leaving no tracks of time
With your hand all wrapped up in the spirit of mine, just slow

With waves crashing tales of trolls and dead kings
And your voice makes it all sound like harpsichord strings in the hall

I hear it each night and I hear it each day
And it always sounds right so it can’t fade away or fall

Sometimes I wonder how I’ll get along
If I ever know that you’re gone

I look out at the sun going down in the west
As its amber light rolls down your delicate breast like a veil

I know in your eyes I saw the same thing
The most faithful of light that each new morning brings without fail

You mended my coat and it patched up my soul
You picked up my heart and put it back in its hole then you turned

You never once asked for me to repay
The kindness that shines in your face every day, and I’ve learned

Sometimes I wonder how I’ll get along
If I ever know that you’re gone

I can’t help but feel this way that I do
And how badly I want all the same things for you so you smile

You made it inside where forever you’ll stay
But it feels like you’re looking far, far away once in a while

I’d give all I could just to have you believe
That if I could be yours, I’d never leave if you’re mine

If you gave me your hand, I’d never let go
If you gave me your heart, I’d open my soul for all time

Sometimes I wonder how I’ll get along
If I ever know that you’re gone
